After a relaxing afternoon and easy morning in Palm Springs, Shoby and I hit the trail Tuesday where I left off on the north side of I-10. Over the next 4 days we hiked through the desert, past a windmill farm, crossed Whitewater Creek and climbed along Mission Creek until the desert floor turned to arroyo then to mountains. We could see snow capped peaks while walking through stands of massive Ponderosa pines and mountain cedar trees. The first day was a modest 10 miles after a relaxed start but each following day was 15-16 miles of hiking with some respectable climbing under the intense Southern California sun.
